Independent Dialogues of Indigenous Peoples
Region: Pacific
by
Pawanka Fund and the Indigenous Lawyers Association of Queensland Inc.
On May 2021, different dialogues were carried out were carried out in three different virtual meetings dated May 25th, 26th, and 28th. The virtual dialogues in preparation of the Food Summit provided an opportunity for indigenous peoples to formally connect with the Summit process through an official mechanism for discussing challenges and solutions to traditional food systems. Indigenous peoples have been able to participate directly in proposing sustainable food systems, exploring new ways of working together and encouraging collaborative action.
Awatea, along with other organizations collaborated with Pawanka Fund in making this possible.
The meeting addressed the five central actions tracks and had specific questions guiding the discussions. An analysis of the situation in each participating country and discussion of the results were achieved. Recommendations were identified according to each context.
