The hydrological cycle is an expression of love between the heavens and earth, and each stage is a critical component. The Atua who control these elements are in charge of condensation, evaporation, collection and precipitation.

The prestigious status of water is deeply rooted in our spirituality and metaphysical worldview as Māori. The diagram depicted traces the genealogy of water to various Atua and primordial parents of te hurihanga wai (the hydrological cycle).
